황두순초대전

이상민

파란색의 초현실적이고 환상 같은 작품을 감상할 수 있는 이상민 초대개인전을 갤러리 아인에서 11월 12일까지 열린다.

대학 시절, 작가는 작품 표현에서의 주관성과 객관성 사이에서 혼돈이 오던 시기에 다다이즘과 초현실주의를 접하게 되면서 앞이 보이지 않던 엄청난 표현의 불안감에서 조금은 벗어날 수 있게 되었다.
현대인들은 정해진 일상에서 대부분 생활하고 있다. 자기의 생각, 꿈, 이상 등은 잊어 간 채 지나온 일을 경험 삼아 나은 내일을 기대하며 살아가고 있는지도 모른다. 초현실주의가 탄생한 암울한 그 시기의 불안과 공포 등이 현대에서도 형식만 다를 뿐이지 이어지고 있다고 생각하다. 경제적으로는 매우 풍요로워졌다고는 하지만 불안한 현실은 개개인의 꿈과 상상을 현실에서 가두게 하고 파괴해버린다. 그런 현대인의 꿈과 상상, 공상, 환상의 세계를 이성에 지배를 받지 않는 초현실주의 형식을 빌려 물체의 왜곡, 변형, 위치 이동 등을 통해서 나를 포함한 현대를 살아가는 사람들의 마음, 생각을 표현하고자 하였다.                                                            -작가노트

색깔은 이상민 작가 작품에서 필수적이며, 우리가 알고 있는 현실에서 비현실의 세계로 빠져들어 가게 하는 작품 표현의 방식이자 상징일 것이다. 그의 작품에서 나타난 초현실적 표현을 통해, 일상생활의 강박에서 벗어나 우리의 깊은 생각의 열망을 생각나게끔 하며, 내면의 풍요로운 환상의 세계가 있음을 작품을 통해 알아 갈 수 있을 것이다. 그리고, 자신의 풍부한 내면 세계를 발견하는 시간이 될 것이다.

프랑스 파리에서 활발히 작품 활동을 하는 권혁이 작가는 갤러리 아인을 통해 자연의 개념적 형상들을 재구성하여 평면, 설치, 영상에 이르기까지 다양한 작품을 선보이고 있다. 

정물을 뜻하는 “still life”를 직역하면 움직임이 없고 정지된 생명을 의미합니다. 고대 그리스 시대로부터 움직임은 변화와 생명력을, 반면 정적인 것은 생명 없는 상태를 나타내는 것으로 여져겼습니다. 때문에 이 표현은 비생명적인 것과 자연이라는 개념을 담고 있습니다. 하지만 아직 움직이지 않거나 무생물일지라도, “still life”라는 단어들의 조합은 살아 숨 쉬는 존재의 가능성과 생명력을 내포하고 있습니다.

삶은 유한하여 아름답다. 우리의 삶은 젤리피쉬를 닮았다. 

때로는 투명하고 때로는 모호하며 
때로는 알 수 없는 일들이 아름답게 펼쳐진다. 
여러가지 예기치 못한 일들과 복잡한 관계들과 
설명할 수 없는 감정이 서로 충돌하고 겹쳐져 있다. 
나는 그 얽혀 있는 관계들과 감정들이 깊은 바다를 
헤엄치는 젤리피쉬의 유연한 모습들과 닮았다고 생각했다. 
거대한 파도가 당신을 덮쳐 와도 벗어나려고 
애쓰거나 버둥거리지 않기를. 
그저 파도의 출렁임에 몸을 맡기고 
투명하고 자유롭게 흘러가듯 살아가기를. 
그래서 당신의 삶이 조화 속에 평화롭기를. 

삶의 모든 순간순간들은 지나고 보면 모두 아름답고 찬란하기만 하다.

선물 같은 하루 (작가 노트 중에서)

나는 삶을 여행이라고 생각한다.
삶의 여행길에서 겪은 모든 기억은 곧 나 자신이다.
기억은 내면에 새겨진 고유한 나만의 무늬가 된다.


내면의 기억과 무의식은 왜곡되기도 하고 편파적으로 변형되기도 한다. 나는 기억을 주관적 해석으로 재구성해 새로운 풍경을 만들어 낸다. 재구성된 ’이미지 기억’의 파편들이 만든 새로운 풍경은 기억의 응축이며 시공간의 경계가 없이 전개된 다시점과 동시성의 화면이다. 무의식 속에 존재했던 공간과 사물은 그 순간과 함께 기억된 나의 미묘한 감정과 현재의 내면 의식과 교차하며 몽환적으로 재구성된다. 

달콤한 꿈을 꾸듯 행복한 기억을 담은 작품은 나만의 유토피아적 상상의 세계이다.

이번 기획은 우리의 삶이 다양하듯 예술의 형태도 다양할 수 있다는 것에서부터 시작합니다. 예술가들은 서로 다른 삶의 방식과 다양한 경험을 통해 자신만의 이야기들을 작품에 담고 있습니다. 이렇게 표현된 작품의 형태와 의미들을 [예술: 천태만상] 기획전을 통해 새롭게 발견하고자 합니다. 이번 전시를 통해 현대 예술을 바라보는 새로운 시각을 제시하고자 합니다.

This exhibition, You + Me = We, is an omnibus exhibition project in which Korean artists present three independent stories woven together under a single theme in a narrative format. The exhibition runs from May 4 to August 30, 2026, and is composed of three sections.

While each section possesses its own distinct character and narrative, they are closely interconnected. Through this structure, visitors are invited to experience the diverse facets of both traditional Korean art and contemporary art, and to explore the dynamic dialogue between the two.

These two series artistically give voice to our stories about the periphery, the small, the unheard, the powerless. I want to say that when you and I come together, there are infinite possibilities for us and for each other to do.
This exhibition creates stories of artists whose small stories come together to create a single world. We want to show that you and I can create a single community.

This exhibition focuses not on the center of dominant narratives, but on the small voices that have remained at the margins. Unheard stories, fading emotions, and traces of people who have lost power within social structures are transformed into a new visual language through art. Here, art becomes more than representation—it becomes a way of revealing hidden emotions and unseen existences.
“You + Me = we” is not simply a statement about community. It describes a condition that is constantly created and transformed through relationships with others. “we” is not a fixed identity, but a fluid connection formed through different people meeting, clashing, and resonating with one another. Togetherness, therefore, is not about forcing sameness, but about learning how to coexist while respecting difference.
Through painting, objects, materiality, and color, the artists in this exhibition explore and question structures of power and desire. In contemporary society, authority exists not only in politics, but also within sensations of everyday life, in the language of human relationship, and even the sturctures of percepton itself. The artists reveal these invisible systems while imagining new ways of feeling, connecting, and understanding beyond them.
A key concept of the exhibition is the “wave.” wave is not fixed; it is always moving and changing. Rather than forcing ideology or authority onto others, it is a flexible energy that accepts, adapts, and transforms through encounter. Instead of directly destroying oppressive systems, the wave slowly blurs boundaries and opens possibilities for new relationships.
Ultimately, art becomes not simply a visual object, but a sensory wave that creates new voices and new connections. 《You + Me = we: wave》 invites us to reflect on how we sense one another’s existence and how we might imagine a shared future together.

이번 전시는 《You + Me = We》옴니버스 전시로, 한국 작가들이 하나의 주제 아래 세 개의 독립적인 이야기를 엮어 서사적 형식으로 선보이는 프로젝트이다. 전시는 2026년 5월 4일부터 8월 30일까지 진행되며, 총 세 개의 섹션으로 구성된다.
각 섹션은 독립적인 성격을 지니면서도 서로 긴밀하게 연결되어 있으며, 이를 통해 관람객들은 한국 전통 미술과 동시대 미술이 지닌 다양한 면모를 함께 경험할 수 있다.

이번 전시에 참여한 두 번째 시리즈는 주변부에 머물러 있던 이야기들, 작고 연약한 존재들, 들리지 않았던 목소리들, 그리고 힘을 갖지 못했던 존재들의 이야기를 예술적으로 드러낸다.
나는 ‘너’와 ‘나’가 함께할 때 우리에게는 무한한 가능성이 열리며, 서로를 통해 더 큰 가능성을 만들어 갈 수 있다고 말하고 싶다.
이번 전시는 각 예술가의 작은 이야기들이 모여 하나의 세계를 이루는 과정을 보여준다. 그리고 그 과정을 통해 ‘너’와 ‘나’가 함께 하나의 공동체를 만들어 갈 수 있음을 이야기하고자 한다.

이번 전시는 지배적인 서사의 중심이 아닌, 주변부에 머물러 있던 작은 목소리에 주목한다. 들리지 않았던 이야기들, 사라져가는 감정들, 그리고 사회 구조 속에서 힘을 잃어버린 존재들의 흔적은 예술을 통해 새로운 시각적 언어로 변환된다. 여기서 예술은 단순한 재현을 넘어, 숨겨진 감정과 보이지 않는 존재를 드러내는 하나의 방식이 된다.
《You + Me = we》는 단순히 공동체를 말하는 문장이 아니다. 그것은 타인과의 관계 속에서 끊임없이 생성되고 변화하는 상태를 의미한다. ‘우리(we)’는 고정된 정체성이 아니라, 서로 다른 존재들이 만나고 충돌하며 공명하는 과정 속에서 형성되는 유동적인 연결이다. 따라서 함께함이란 동일성을 강요하는 것이 아니라, 차이를 존중하며 공존하는 방법을 배우는 일이다.
이번 전시에 참여한 작가들은 회화, 오브제, 물질성, 그리고 색채를 통해 권력과 욕망의 구조를 탐구하고 질문한다. 오늘날 권력은 정치적 영역에만 존재하지 않는다. 그것은 일상의 감각 속에, 인간관계의 언어 속에, 그리고 우리가 세상을 인식하는 방식 자체에 스며들어 있다. 작가들은 이러한 보이지 않는 구조를 드러내는 동시에, 그 너머에서 새로운 감각과 연결, 그리고 이해의 가능성을 상상한다.
이번 전시의 핵심 개념 가운데 하나는 ‘파동(wave)’이다. 파동은 고정되어 있지 않으며 끊임없이 움직이고 변화한다. 그것은 이념이나 권위를 타인에게 강요하는 힘이 아니라, 만남을 통해 수용하고 적응하며 변화하는 유연한 에너지이다. 파동은 억압적인 구조를 직접적으로 파괴하기보다, 서서히 경계를 흐리고 새로운 관계가 형성될 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다.

This exhibition focuses on stories that have remained at the margins—those of small and vulnerable beings whose voices have not always been recognized within the language of institutions and systems of power. By bringing visibility to voices that were often unheard or dismissed as powerless, the exhibition invites us to reconsider what has been spoken and what has remained silent.
To shed light on what has long been unseen, and to give form to emotions and memories that have lingered in silence, is more than an act of representation. It is a critical practice of restoring presence and dignity. Rather than consuming pain and memory, the exhibition seeks to recover a sense of life and belonging, demonstrating how art can serve as a meaningful ethical response to the world.
When you and I meet and become ‘we’, individual stories move beyond isolation and gain new meaning through relationships. Difference is not a cause for division, but an opportunity to reflect and expand one another. In this encounter, the possibility of living together opens toward a renewed social imagination.
Just as small stories gather to form a world, the works presented in this exhibition create another landscape—one shaped by empathy and solidarity. Here, community is not a fixed form, but an ongoing process of connection and renewal, and art becomes a living language that participates in that process. The exhibition records moments where personal stories connect with the lives of others, proposing dialogue over silence and solidarity over isolation. This is both an aesthetic and a social choice—an expression of how art engages with the world.
This artistic testimony, which suggests that you and I can become a shared community, is completed when viewers move beyond passive observation and listen with attention and care. In doing so, art becomes more than a means of expression; it becomes a language through which we learn how to live together.
Through the gathering of many small stories, this exhibition offers a contemporary reflection on the possibility of moving beyond the boundaries between “I” and “you,” and discovering the relational meaning of “we.”

이 전시는 중심이 아닌 주변부, 제도와 권력의 언어로 포착되지 않았던 작고 연약한 존재들의 이야기에 주목한다. 쉽게 들리지 않았고, 종종 무력하다고 간주되어 왔던 목소리들을 예술이라는 매개를 통해 가시화함으로써, 우리는 무엇이 말해질 수 있고 무엇이 침묵되어 왔는가를 다시 질문하고자 한다.
보이지 않던 것들에 빛을 비추고, 침묵 속에 머물러 있던 감정과 기억을 형상과 언어로 호출하는 행위는 단순한 재현을 넘어 존재를 재위치 시키는 비판적 실천이다. 이는 상처와 기억을 소비하는 것이 아니라, 존엄과 삶의 감각을 회복하는 과정이며, 예술이 수행할 수 있는 윤리적 개입의 한 방식이기도 하다.
너와 내가 만나 ‘우리’가 되는 순간, 개별적 서사는 고립된 개인의 이야기를 넘어 관계적 의미를 획득한다. 각자의 다름은 충돌이나 분리의 이유가 아니라, 서로를 비추고 확장시키는 거울로 작동하며, 그 안에서 함께할 수 있는 가능성은 새로운 사회적 상상력으로 열려간다.

Today, Minhwa continues to evolve by preserving its traditional spirit while embracing contemporary aesthetics and artistic innovation. It has become a distinctive cultural art form that introduces Korea's unique identity to audiences around the world. As a living tradition, Minhwa bridges the past and the present, carrying forward its artistic significance and cultural values while remaining relevant in today's creative landscape.
The growing international recognition of Minhwa is exemplified by the exhibition "Minhwa: The Art of Korea", held in Venice. This exhibition presents contemporary interpretations of the traditional spirit of Minhwa, showcasing its enduring relevance and artistic potential on the global stage. Through their unique artistic visions, twenty-four Minhwa artists express universal themes of hope, happiness, healing, and harmony, demonstrating that Minhwa is not merely a legacy of the past but a vibrant and evolving art form. By highlighting both the tradition and contemporary evolution of Minhwa, this exhibition serves as a meaningful opportunity to expand global appreciation for Korean folk painting and its enduring cultural significance.

민화는 오래전부터 이어져 온 한국의 전통 회화로, 단순한 그림을 넘어 우리 민족의 삶과 정신을 담아낸 문화유산이다. 그림 속에는 가족의 행복, 장수, 부귀영화 등 사람들이 간절히 바라는 소망과 일상생활이 상징적으로 표현되어 있으며, 이를 통해 당시 사람들의 가치관과 삶의 모습을 엿볼 수 있다.
민화의 가장 큰 특징은 화려한 색채와 자유로운 표현 방식이다. 사실적인 묘사보다 상징성과 의미를 중시하여 누구나 쉽게 공감하고 즐길 수 있는 예술로 발전하였다. 이러한 점은 민화를 단순한 장식화가 아니라 백성들의 희망과 염원을 담은 생활 예술로 평가하게 한다.
오늘날 민화는 전통적인 의미를 계승하면서도 현대적인 감각과 독창적인 예술성을 더해 새로운 문화예술로 발전하고 있으며, 한국의 정체성을 세계에 알리는 예술로 자리 잡고 있다. 결국 민화는 화려한 색채와 상징적 표현을 바탕으로 우리의 삶과 소망을 담아낸 한국의 전통 그림이며, 과거와 현재를 잇는 소중한 문화유산으로서 그 예술적 가치와 전통적 의미를 계속 이어가고 있다.
이러한 민화의 가치는 국제 무대에서도 주목 받고 있다. 이번 베니스에서 개최되는 「Minhwa: The Art of Korea」 전시는 전통 민화의 정신을 현대적으로 재해석한 작품들을 선보이며, 한국 민화의 새로운 가능성을 세계에 소개하는 뜻깊은 자리이다. 24명의 민화 작가들은 각자의 독창적인 작품을 통해 희망과 행복, 치유와 공존이라는 보편적 가치를 표현하며, 민화가 과거의 유산에 머무는 것이 아니라 오늘날에도 살아 숨 쉬는 예술임을 보여준다. 이 전시는 한국 민화의 전통성과 현대성을 함께 조명하며, 세계인들과 공감할 수 있는 문화 예술로서 민화의 가치를 더욱 확장시키는 계기가 될 것이다.

You + Me = we: Hospitality

The core concept of the third and final chapter of the Venice Special Exhibition is “Hospitality.” Hospitality goes beyond the simple act of welcoming others. It is an attitude of embracing difference—not by erasing distinctions or assimilating others into sameness, but by recognizing and respecting differences as they are. Rather than making the Other conform to ourselves, hospitality is an ethical practice of openness, one that welcomes even those differences that may remain unfamiliar or beyond our understanding. The artists participating in this exhibition present diverse artistic worlds shaped by their different cultural backgrounds, artistic languages, and individual life experiences. Expressed through a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, and installation, their works do not seek to speak in a single, unified voice. Instead, each maintains its own distinctive perspective and sensibility while coexisting with the others. This diversity enriches the exhibition and offers viewers an opportunity to encounter different values, perspectives, and ways of seeing. Beyond being a space for viewing artworks, this exhibition proposes a “space of hospitality”—a place where different individuals encounter one another and form new relationships. In front of the works, viewers engage with unfamiliar sensations and perspectives, connecting their own experiences with the stories of others and discovering new meanings through these encounters. Ultimately, hospitality is not about overcoming difference, but about recognizing and respecting it while exploring the possibility of living together. This exhibition seeks to become a meaningful space in which art puts this possibility into practice, opening a path toward coexistence while allowing differences to remain differences.

Gallery EYN is located in a Kangnam and committed to introduce contemporary art. We first established gallery Art&Space312 in 2014 to introduce Korean and foreign artists through exhibitions and art fair. In 2022, we restarted as Gallery EYN to respond to contemporary art and the rapidly changing art market. We aim to discover young artists and to create their discourse for their work activities through various domestic and foreign exhibitions and art fairs. In addition, we want to serve as a hub in the art ecosystem. Gallery EYN strives to communicate with the public through art to make an environment where anyone can enjoy art in their lives. And EYN wants to introduces world-class contemporary artists to Korea, and at the same time promotes Korean art (artists) to advance into overseas stages. So we are working to build a foundation and want to publicize the continued growth and potential of Korean art in the domestic and foreign art markets.
